Portrait of Sylvie, a painter working in her studio

Sylvie Vanlerberghe is a professional painter, renowned for her portraits and intimate scenes of everyday life. A member of the Taylor Foundation , she exhibits regularly in galleries, and her works are featured in private collections worldwide.

She is also the author of the book Painting Portraits (Mango editions), dedicated to oil painting, and shares her know-how through educational videos on her YouTube channel .

Trained in watercolor, pastel, engraving, then oil painting, she took courses with Philippe Lejeune at the Portrait School in Etampes, as well as workshops with Christoff Debusschere and Jean-Marie Ledannois , painter of MACY (Contemporary Art Movement of Yvelines).

For several years, she has exhibited her work and led workshops on portrait techniques. She advocates a daily painting practice, guided by a quest for simplicity and sincerity. Her increasingly refined style expresses a personal and sensitive voice.

" Bright and peaceful moments guide my inspiration; rich and vibrant oil paint allows me to reveal them through fresh and direct brushstrokes."

Working from live models is central to her approach, but she also draws inspiration from attitudes captured in photographs or films. She finds beauty in the ordinary, the everyday, the intimate.

" I try to capture the poetry and emotion that a simple stroke of light, a glance, or an atmosphere evokes in me. I have a deep attraction to the lights of the North and colored greys."
